    Intern Spotlight: Farewell Juyoung

College is great, but if you want to learn fast, finding a great internship is the solution. I spent my last four months interning for Gravyty and learned more in that time than a semester full of classes.

AtComputerGravyty was my first internship, so when I walked in on day one, I had concerns. Would I spend my days standing by the copy machine? Be responsible for making coffee or staring at Excel files all day? To my relief, the resounding answer was no! Immediately, Gravyty co-founder and CTO, Rich Palmer, threw me into engaging projects. Every day was interesting.

    My First Week

During my first week, I sat in on a meeting as the team discussed a software engineer candidate. I saw first-hand how the company's values directly align with the employees hired.

On my second day, it was my opportunity to align my personal goals with the work I would be doing for Gravyty. I expressed an interest to grow my technical skills. Rich assigned me projects in Django and Bootstrap. Both are open-source frameworks for designing websites and web apps. I was officially part of Gravyty's bi-weekly sprints!

    More Than Technical

Gravyty has more to boast than just helping budding computer engineers with technical chops. Company culture is amazing. Co-founders Rich and Adam are busy, but they always made an effort to sit down for one-on-one meetings. They continuously asked if I was learning, making personal progress, and having a good experience with the company they worked so hard to build. They also gave me more opportunity. Through these meetings, I found pathways to work and learn from the sales and marketing teams.

    Team

Some of my memories were at lunch with the team or working with Jona, Gravyty's UX/UI designer and developer.

I worked with Jona on Gravyty's News & Events page. He helped me outline a process from brainstorming to design, coding, and publishing. Many of my tasks were on the backend, so it is especially rewarding to have a live page on Gravyty's website to show my work.

I can not imagine a better way to explore a career as a computer engineer. Gravyty gave me amazing growth opportunities. This internship will be hard to top!
